Mexico is in the midst of an unprecedented and tumultuous political moment. Current conflicts include the post-electoral crisis of the recent Presidential elections including Lopez Obrador’s allegations of fraud and ensuing civil resistance, the current rebellion in Oaxaca and its roots in the teachers’ movement, and the Zapatistas’ non-electoral movement called the “Other Campaign” including the recent clash between the authorities and the rebel town of San Salvador Atenco.

Many Mexicans believe that these conflicts are causing deep rooted structural problems in Mexico’s political and economic systems to be discussed and addressed . Others believe that the current crisis is putting Mexican democracy at risk.

Greg Berger, Canal 6 de Julio, and Jill Freidberg are among the most critically acclaimed and prolific documentary film producers working in Mexico. In their upcoming tour, they will screen recent works covering Mexico’s current political conflicts, and will discuss the underlying issues surround these movements in a broader social and political context.

Each presentation will also include a live Q&A with activists in Mexico.
